The Shimanami Future Co-creation Council, comprised of passenger ferry operators and local governments in Onomichi and Imabari,
will conduct a demonstration project for the launch of a passenger ferry route between Onomichi and Imabari over nine days on weekends and holidays in October 2025.
In conjunction with this, a "Setouchi Stamp Rally" will be held in October at stores around Setoda Port on Ikuchijima Island and Iguchi Port on Omishima Island
using the "WESTER app," issuing coupons that can be used at participating stores.
The Onomichi-Imabari route was discontinued as a regular service in 1999, but since the opening of the Shimanami Kaido, it has become recognized as a mecca for cyclists, and the number of
tourists has increased. As a result, there have been many calls for the expansion of the ferry route, leading to the implementation of this project.
