Cycleship Shimanami
Report

SHIMANAMI is a dream destination for cyclists worldwide! Among them, cyclists who have experienced the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido, considered a sacred place, have sent in requests such as, "I want to see the beautiful islands and bridges from the ship," and "I also want to ride the Yumeshima Kaido and Tobishima Kaido." This is truly a yearning for "island hopping" by "bicycle x ship"... and
in response to this expectation, the "Cycle Ship Shimanami" has set sail! It travels across the Seto Inland Sea, not only through the Kurushima Strait, one of Japan's three major rapid currents, but also to the islands of the Yumeshima Kaido and Akinada Tobishima Kaido, and even from Iwakuni (Yamaguchi) and Miyajima (Hiroshima) to Mizushima (Okayama). The "Cycle Ship Shimanami" is friendly to bicycles and cyclists, but its mission is not limited to speedy transport to destination ports.
"As we sail through the Seto Inland Sea, we want our cyclists on board to enjoy not only the beautiful scenery of numerous islands, strong currents and whirlpools, and white sandy beaches and pine trees, but also the landscapes woven by human activity, such as the majestic bridge, shipyard cranes and ships under construction, and passing cargo ships and ferries. We also consider it an important role to help them create lasting travel memories," says the captain.
And rightly so, as the "Cycle Ship Shimanami" is operated by "Shimanami Co., Ltd." This is the spirit of a local company that plans and operates experiential tidal current sightseeing cruises in the Kurushima Strait, where currents can reach up to 10 knots (approximately 18 km/h), and has been well-received by tourists from both Japan and abroad. Under the safe operation of a captain who knows the Seto Inland Sea inside and out, the "Cycle Ship Shimanami" offers a Seto Inland Sea cruise that can only be experienced. The dream of "island hopping" by "bicycle x ship" can come true.
