Shimanami Kaido

A scenic road connecting seven bridges and beautiful islands

The Setouchi Shimanami Kaido is a sea route woven from beautiful islands and bridges connecting them,
stretching approximately 60 km from Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture to Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture.

The attached cycling road is famous as the first bicycle path in Japan that allows you to cross the strait. It is known as a "holy land for cyclists," and cycling is great while enjoying the spectacular views of the islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea and being blown by the sea breeze!

There are also many other attractions and experience spots on the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido. Visit places associated with the Murakami Pirates, experience the rapids of the Kurishima Strait, famous as one of Japan's three major rapids, relax with the spectacular views and experience the great nature of the seasons. You can enjoy a luxurious time that you cannot experience in your daily life.

kirousan Observation Deck

Shimanami Kaido | Oshima | Yoshiumi Town

The observation park, located at the summit of kirousan at an altitude of 307m, is the view that is said to be the best in the Shimanami Kaido. From the observation deck you can see the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, the Seto Inland Sea, and on clear days, Mt. Ishizuchi. The view is especially spectacular at dusk.

Oyamazumi Shrine

Shimanami Kaido | Omishima | Omishima Town

This shrine has been revered by successive imperial courts and military commanders as the god of the sea, the mountains, and war. A
2,600-year-old camphor tree greets visitors within the shrine grounds.

Geiyo Fortress andKojima Battery Ruins

Geiyo Islands | Kojima

In the 1900s, Geiyo Fortress was built to prepare for the Russo-Japanese War. The island remains of the remains of the gun stations from that time, the observation tower, and red brick underground barracks, and are connected by a promenade.
