This course combines a Shimanami Kurushima Strait sightseeing boat ride with an island landing experience. Land on one of the islands below and experience the island's history

Kojima (Geiyo Fortress Ruins) Landing Course

*Departure from Shimoda Port at 10:00 or 12:30 *
Departure from Shimoda Port at 11:00 or 12:30 (Departure times for use during the winter season from December 15th to March 15th)

Island walking time: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes (Total time including boarding time: Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes)

Located in the Kurushima Strait, this island is approximately 3km in circumference. Before the Russo-Japanese War, Japan built a fortress on the islet to prepare for an invasion of the Seto Inland Sea by the Russian Navy. It is the only coastal fortress from the Meiji period that remains in a nearly intact state in Japan

28cm Howitzer (replica): Installed in front of the port in March 2013. It was used in the filming of the NHK special drama "Clouds Above the Hill," which aired for three years from 2009 to 2011

A small island with a circumference of 850m, it is known as the base of the Kurushima Murakami pirates. The entire island is a natural fortress protected by rapids, surrounded by stone walls and with impressive castle walls consisting of the main, second and third baileys. Today, old wells and pillar holes from when the pier was built remain

Shingetsuan: Houses the memorial tablets of the lords of Kurushima Castle.
Yachihoko Shrine: A shrine located near the ferry landing. It is said to have been built by the Kono clan of Matsuyama and Dogo Yuzuki Castle as a guardian deity when they built Kurushima Castle.

Umajima Landing Course

Island walking time: Approximately 1 hour (Total trip including boat ride: Approximately 2 hours)

Umajima is the island where the huge anchorages that secure the Kurushima Daini Ohashi Bridge and the Kurushima Daisan Ohashi Bridge are located. It is the only bridge on the Shimanami Kaido that has an elevator, allowing pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles under 125cc to descend to the island

・Junior and senior high school students: 1,800 yen (sightseeing boat fare) + 700 yen (landing option fee) Total: 2,500 yen
・Elementary school students: 1,000 yen *No landing option fee required
・Children under elementary school age: Free for up to 10 people (for groups of 11 or more, the elementary school student rate applies from the 11th person onwards)
*However, infants (under 1 year old) are free of charge even if there are 11 or more people.
・Group discount: 10% discount for groups of 10 or more people

[Regarding island guides]
If you would like an island guide (Kojima or Umajima), we can arrange it separately for the following fee.
• Guide fee: 5,000 yen and up (one guide is assigned to approximately every 20-30 people.)
*Customers who apply for the Kojima Island landing course will receive a "Kojima Island Tourist Information Map."
 This map contains a QR code that allows you to listen to a guidance tape.
(The "Kojima Island Tourist Information Map" is free of charge. However, data communication charges for using the guidance tape are the responsibility of the customer.)

Requests regarding boarding

Notes

  • Be sure to wear a life jacket. (We will prepare it on board.)
  • Please do not walk around the ship while sailing as it may suddenly sway due to tides and waves. Please be especially careful if you have small children.
  • Seawater may enter the ship due to tides and waves. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Pets are not allowed on board. (Guide dogs are allowed on board.)
  • Infants can board the boat using a stroller or baby carrier. (Please keep the stroller folded.)
  • You cannot board the boat after drinking. We do not accept any fire or any cutlery or alcohol that is excluding some fires or other items.
  • Please refrain from boarding if you are unwell or have a fever.
  • If it is determined that it will interfere with safe flights, the flight may be cancelled on the day. (typhoons, heavy rain, storms, heavy snow, dense fog, lightning strikes, etc.)

For customers using wheelchairs, etc.

  • When boarding the boat, you will not be able to pass through the ramp while in your wheelchair. You will have to get out of your wheelchair and cross the ramp. In such cases, the captain will not be able to assist with any sudden assistance, such as driving the ship and maintaining its docking state. Comrades will be asked to assist you with the boarding.
  • Since the seats are fixed chairs, please sit in the designated seat rather than in a wheelchair. There are seats right behind the driver's seat.

While enjoying the beautiful archipelago of the Seto Inland Sea, you can feel the history of Murakami Pirates, known as "Japan's largest pirates." This museum also spreads Japan's unique "KAIZOKU" to the world, allowing children and adults to learn about Murakami Pirates while having fun.

The Panoramic Observation Deck Bridge offers views of the world's first triple suspension bridge, the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, and the Kurushima Kaikyo, one of Japan's three major tides. On sunny days, you can also see Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan. Also, be sure to take a look at the regular lighting of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and the night view of Imabari city.

The flower beds in the garden are planted with 3,500 roses, 400 species and 300 species collected from all over the world, allowing you to enjoy beautiful flowers from mid-May to the end of December. Every year, a rose festival is held during the perfect time of year when the roses are in full bloom, and is bustling with many visitors.
