Starting in February 2024, the Kurushima Strait Rapids Sightseeing Boat will be renamed the Shimanami Kurushima Strait Pleasure Boat
The reasons for the change are as follows:
The route taken by this sightseeing boat has other wonderful sights besides the strong currents, such as the shipbuilding docks at Hatohama Bay, historical remains from the Murakame pirates and the Russo-Japanese War, and the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge. We want to highlight these and make the Kurushima Strait more well-known. We wanted to create a name that reflects the idea that
"a boat whose purpose is to allow you to enjoy the Kurushima Strait area by touring the history of small islands and Kurushima, with a focus on Japan's three strongest strong currents, the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, the world's first triple suspension bridge, and the Imabari shipyards, Japan's leading maritime city."
