Conquering the bridges connecting the four Yumeshima islands and the Kurushima Strait

This is a cycling route that takes you along the popular coastal road of Ikuchijima, the islands of the Yumeshima Kaido, and the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge. The Cycle Ship Shimanami utilizes Nagae Port on Iwakijima, which does not have a regular shipping route. Enjoy the Yumeshima Kaido by connecting these distant locations via a shipping route

Cycling information

DistanceApproximately 21km (travel time approximately 3-4 hours)
DifficultyFor beginners
Things to noteThere are uphill sections to each bridge, including Iwaki Bridge.
Other than the bridges, this route has few mountain passes.

A magnificent bridge that connects them with the islands scattered across the beautiful sea.
The beauty of the Shimanami Kaido is a blend of rich nature and people's lives, giving us time to relax.
We read the scenery of the Shimanami Kaido as "Shimanami Scenes."

Ikuguchi Island

Setoda Sunset Beach

From the approximately 800m white sand beach, you can see the silhouettes of the islands of Hyotanjima, Omishima, Okunoshima, and Takaneshima, as well as a panoramic view of the five Goliath cranes at Imabari Shipbuilding Hiroshima Factory and the tallest power transmission tower in Japan (223m) towering over Okunoshima, known as the "skyscraper of the ocean." This is a scenic spot where the white sand beach, the beauty of the islands, and the beauty of the landscape are in dynamic yet delicate harmony

Ikuchi Island and Takane Island

Takane Island

Takane Island, which lies to the west of Ikuchi Island, can be crossed by an orange-yellow farm road bridge that straddles the Setoda Channel. The Setoda townscape can be seen just beyond the horizon, the three-story pagoda of Koyo-ji Temple perched atop Mount Choon, and the Setoda Channel, with its quiet sound of the waves. Why not take as much time as you like and let your thoughts wander back to the good old days? Heading north from the village, the island-wide art museum's artwork, "Tent Enveloping a Sphere" (by Yasuda Haruhiko), and the tower crane at Utsumi Shipbuilding's Setoda Factory will bring you back to the present day

Sashima

Sashima Townscape

Of the four islands on the Yumeshima Kaido, Sashima is the quietest. Far from the hustle and bustle, the island is the epitome of the leisurely flow of "island time."
