A Shimanami trip with a cycle ship
A practical demonstration experiment to improve the Onomichi and Imabari routes -
Onomichi and Imabari routes will be connected by routes for the first time in 26 years
JR West Japan China General Headquarters Hiroshima Branch will work with the Shimanami Future Co-Creation Council, organized by passenger ship operators and local governments in Onomichi and Imabari,
to carry out demonstration projects aimed at launching the Onomichi-Imabari route through passenger ships.
This project will be held on 9 days of Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays in October.
In addition, in October, a Setouchi Burari Stamp Rally will be held using the WESTER App at stores around Setoda Port, Ikuguchi Port, and Omishima,
to issue coupons that can be used at participating stores.
The Onomichi-Imabari route was abolished as a regular route in 1999, but after the Shimanami Kaido opened, it was recognized as a sacred place for cyclists, and the
number of tourists has increased. As a result, there have been a growing demand for improved routes, and the project has begun to be implemented.
Two companies, Onomichi City Passenger Ship Operator: Setouchi Cruising Co., Ltd. and Imabari City Passenger Ship Operator: Shimanami Co., Ltd.,
will operate each cycle ship (passenger ship that can be loaded with bicycles).
The two companies operate their own cycles and use Ikuguchishima Setoda Port and Omishima Iguchi Port as transfer ports, connecting Onomichi and Imabari via routes.

Requests regarding boarding
Notes
- If the captain gives you an instructed guide, please be sure to wear a life jacket. (We will prepare it on board.)
- Children are not allowed to participate or board the boat.
- Please do not walk around the ship while sailing as it may suddenly sway due to tides and waves. Please be especially careful if you have small children.
- Pets are not allowed on board. (Guide dogs are allowed on board.)
- You are asked to board and disembark with your bicycle yourself.
- Infants can board the boat using a stroller or baby carrier. (Please keep the stroller folded.)
- You cannot board the boat after drinking. We do not accept any fire or any cutlery or alcohol that is excluding some fires or other items.
- Please refrain from boarding if you are unwell or have a fever.
- If it is determined that it will interfere with safe flights, the flight may be cancelled on the day. (typhoons, heavy rain, storms, heavy snow, dense fog, lightning strikes, etc.)

Setouchi strolling stamp rally
The Onomichi-Imabari Route Commemorative Challenge will be held at the Setouchi Burari Stamp Rally, which has been running on the WESTER App since June 2025. If you visit stores around Ikuguchishima Setoda Port and Omishima Iguchi Port and receive stamps, you will receive a digital coupon that can be used for accounting on the spot.
